A creative alternative in early childhood education

We offer a full day preschool learning environment, as well as, full time child care which fosters your child's exploration and individual expression. Much of your child's day is spent choosing activities in varied learning centers.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe every child is an important individual and must be treated as such. Our first priority is to help each child appreciate his/her own special qualities and to feel nurtured. Our developmental approach to our program allows for the growth of the whole child in the areas of emotional, social, cognitive, physical, and creative skills. Our program is structured to ensure a feeling of security, yet flexible enough to provide for individual needs.

Bears and Blankets encourages self help skills which we feel helps to improve self esteem through accomplishment. Our caring staff respects our students and helps children learn to show respect and practice good manners.

Bears and Blankets teaches tolerance and acceptance. No child is denied enrollment based on race, ethnicity, disability, or religious beliefs. Our school also strongly believes in giving back to the community, both local and global. We often have activities based on helping others.

Safety is of great importance to Bears and Blankets. Many of our policies are formulated to keep your child safe while in our capable care. The staff work together as a team of professional child care providers. Cooperation and consideration keep the working atmosphere friendly, warm, and pleasant. We know that each member of our team has special talents and ideas that help the Center succeed.

PROGRAMS

Bears and Blankets has been involved with Smart Beginnings of the Shenandoah Valley (formerly Success by Six) for many years. The purpose of this organization is to bring all things together in children’s lives to insure school readiness.

Our classrooms are governed by the Infant/Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS) and the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS), which are research based guidelines for providing the absolute best quality. Our center has been observed and rated by the Quality Rating Improvement Scale (QRIS), used by the State of Virginia to determine the quality of content of a program.

"We have been fortunate enough to have had our 2 children attend Bears and Blankets and could not be happier with the experience. The teachers are professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly communicative. They have been patient in times of transitions and very supportive of what is best for our children. At each level, the teachers engage the children in creative, engaging and educational activities, as well as allow for plenty of outdoor and sensory play. It is a relief to know our sons are not only safe, but well cared for, loved, and treated with kindness and respect throughout their day. I trust their judgement and know they care for my children like they are their own. I recommend Bears and Blankets without hesitation and feel grateful we have been a part of the B&B family."

“We arrived from Brazil together with our 3 year old daughter, we were lost in relation to where our daughter was going to study.  We were welcomed by this community, we can see all the development of our little one, which has always been done with affection, empathy and respect.  Our gratitude to the entire team.”

“I have grown up knowing Bears & Blankets. The hard work that the staff puts in. The lesson plans prepare the students for every level of early learning. And having witnessed it first hand with my own children, there isn't a better place to send your kids. 30+ years says a lot, especially in this industry!”
