Wool Blanket

Wool has long been established as one of the finest natural materials available for blanket making. A quality wool blanket is very soft and comfortable, while offering an exceptional layer of insulation. However, unlike other natural fibers such as cotton, wool can be considerably more expensive.

It is important to remember that not every wool blanket is created equal. Wool, as a commodity, is categorized according to the grade (fineness of the fibers), class (length of the fibers), and quality (purity of the fibers); and blankets made from inferior categories of wool usually result in blankets of inferior quality. One can often tell the difference simply by touching the blanket, as high quality wool is much softer and much more dense than lesser quality wool.

A blanket made from Merino wool is generally considered to be the best wool blanket one can buy, with "Merino" referring to the breed of sheep from which this renowned wool is taken. This particular type of wool is preferred because it is exceptionally soft and the finest of grades. This type of wool is commonly used in the making of fine textiles such as cashmere.
