Crocheted Blanket

Few things in life offer the warmth and security of a handmade, crocheted blanket. They have an old world charm and sophistication that simply cannot be matched by many more modern blanket styles. And because these blankets are most often made by hand, they are often preferred over those that are mass-produced in textile factories.

Very little is known about the origins of crochet, but it is generally accepted that 19th century Europe is where it became popular. Since that time, the crocheted blanket has been one of the most common items made using this process. Commonly referred to as "Afgans", these blankets can be found in millions of homes around the world.

If you want to try your hand at creating your own crocheted blanket, there are many places from which to find designs. Many local sewing retailers will carry at least a few crochet designs on hand. However, by searching online, one can often find a host of designs that would not be available through a local supplier.
